Short trip to Leeuwarden (NL)

Dear readers,

This weekend, I was on a 24-hour short trip to Leeuwarden, in the North of The Netherlands. I would never guess that in my 21 year-young life, I would visit this small city in Friesland twice. When I was 12 years old, I visited this town with my family as we were on vacay near this place. It was also during winter that we visited this town. As this region is known for its ice-skating, we were forced to go visiting and try ice-skating ourselves.

I didn't realise there was more to see in Leeuwarden untill one of my friends told me she would go study over there. I only remembered the ice-skating part being the only thing that town had to offer.

So I decided to go visit her to let me convince there is more than only ice-skating (and because I missed her ofcourse). We left home Saturday morning (my parents did join me as it was a 3 hour ride) and arrived in the afternoon. We caught up at the Starbucks that was on the ground floor of the dorm where she lives, isn't that awesome?

After that, she showed me her dorm and we explored the city. It started snowing as soon as we were outside, but that couldn't spoil the fun. Rani showed me some of the must see places of Leeuwarden whilst we were strolling through the cosy shopping streets near the water.

In the evening, we had an amazing dinner at 'De burgemeester van Napels', an Italian restaurant. We had some brushetta, cheese and meat as appetizer and I ate a delicious spaghetti bolognaise as main dish. After that, Rani introduced me into Leeuwardens' nightlife and ofcourse we had fun.

The next morning, or should I say afternoon, we went ice-skating at the Elfstedenhal. It's the ONE thing you should do when in Leeuwarden. While we were trying our hardest not to fall, there were members of the National Dutch team practising which was amazing to see.

As it was still snowing, we decided to return to Belgium as I had to go to school the day after. It was a bless staying in Leeuwarden for 24-hours thanks to Rani.

Love and kisses,

Imke
